Pronunciation

A vowel with a macron, e.g.: “Lilān” (as with Te Reo Maori), means an elongated or stressed vowel. A double vowel, e.g. “Triian” means exactly the same as a macron vowel.

The “a” sounds are generally the same “a” as in “father” not “cat.
The “o” sounds are generally the same as the first “o” in the word “Boston” or “sock”, and not the “o” that rhymes with “toe”.
