Psi Genetics

I did basic punnet squares in biology at school when we were studying the very basics of genetics. Now, for real biologists and geneticists, I apologise in advance if my memory didn’t serve me correctly for this subject. But despite possible inaccuracies and miscalculations, I thought it would be fun to share the level of detail I went into to create the Psi gene background.

The basic idea of genes, in this context, is that you have two parts to a gene (symbolised in two letters), and one part comes from the sperm donor and the other part comes from the egg donor. In this context there are also dominant genes/parts and recessive genes/parts (which are usually expressed as an uppercase letter or a lowercase letter).

So, a discussion on genes could look like:

KK (being the gene with two dominant pieces)
Kk (being the gene with one dominant piece and one recessive piece)
kk (being the gene with two dominant pieces)

In this context I took “dominant” and “recessive” to mean that the dominant happens statically more than the recessive trait. So, like a dominant trait would be a thing that is a very strong trait in a family (like it takes about three or four generations to breed out the purple eye colour because it’s very dominant). And a recessive trait doesn’t happen very often, such as, there’s a character introduced in Trina Guard called Katana and in her bloodline, she’s the only one with blue hair, while everyone else (40-odd people) for four generations has black hair.

So, back to Psi genes…

There are four main Psi genes at this stage. Empath, telepath, kinetic/PK and Time Psi. The empath and telepath genes are connected enough to affect each other. The Time Psi and kinetic genes are related but mostly don’t affect each other except in specific combinations.

So, these are the basic gene “pairs” for the four Psi genes.

EE | TT | BB | DDD DDd
Ee | Tt | Bb | Ddd
ee | tt | bb | ddd

Empath, Telepath, Kinetic, Time Psi

(I chose to use B and D for kinetic and Time Psi genes because “K” or “P” {kinetic or psycho-kinetic} don’t work very well when you’re handwriting and trying to tell if something is upper case or lower case, and there was already a “T”.)

Every Ar’Manan as a version of these four genes in their DNA.
A true “Norm” is, although this combination is relatively rare even in the Norm population.

So, without bringing in the complication of blocked genes….:

Empath Genes:
EE and Ee produce active empath genes. ee, means no active empath genes.

Telepath Genes:
TT and Tt produce active telepath genes, but the Tt only activates properly if the empath genes are Ee, or ee, because EE interferes with the expression of telepath genes when it’s Tt.

Although, if the offspring has the combination of EE.Tt, they may not be a telepath, but will probably have a related Talent expression of those active but suppressed telepath genes, such as Lie Detection Talent.

Kinetic Genes:
bb produces active kinetic genes, so BB or Bb block any full kinetic activity. If an off-spring has a Bb combination, they’re also likely to have related Talent abilities, such as a Technology Talent or Spacial Talent.

(A little aside here: the kentic genes only occur in those Ar’Manaan from Planet Shadow, in those without it, the BB expression of the gene is on the same section of code as the Time Psi genes. Also, there are three sides to the kinetic genes…

Two Kinetic parts: the ability to move things and the ability to sense the immediate space/densities

And the Healer Talent, which only occurs in tandem with strong empath genes and Time Psi genes, and some other unknown determiner. You cannot be a healer as well as a kinetic and Time Psi, even though these genes are genetically active in a healer (as in they have active Empath, kinetic and Time Psi genes).

Time Psi Genes:
ddd produces active Time Psi genes. So DDD, DDd and Ddd, do not produce active Time Psi genes, although, Ddd is linked to the development of a high rated Dodge Talent and Danger Sense Talent.

There are many unexplained things within the Time Psi set of genes. The third gene, is linked to what would be their version of the “Y” chromosome, so that statistically, there are ever so slightly more male/akaan and hermaphrodite/ada Time Psi, this third gene also tends to decide whether someone is a “Time Psi Prophet” (as in the Time Psi who drop into a trance and “prophecise”), but not always.

And if you’ve got this far and not gone cross-eyed, I salute you!
